This isnt a joke, its the god's honest truth. All it takes is one night with Red Elvises and most people convert over to their cause. And what's the cause, you might ask? Singing, dancing, and having as good a time as you possible can while watching three Russians & a Texan deliver entertainment that hasnt been this good since the King himself passed on.
I saw Red Elvises very briefly when they passed through Dallas on their way to SXSW in Austin, and I was floored. As soon as a friend told me that they were coming to Club Clearview, I had no doubt in my mind that the one thing I was going to make sure I did on Friday was see them all the way through.
Maybe its the red hair...maybe its Olegs giant bass...maybe its the kitsch that they ooze from every pore. It doesnt really matter, because from when they start playing until when they stop, you have almost no choice but to dance and have a great time.
When Oleg told us at the beginning that Red Elvises were going to be have us doing the John-Travolta finger-to-the-sky-routine all night long, I wondered why America wasnt screaming da svidanya at the top of its lungs to these gentlemen who have brought the spirit of what Rock & Roll once was back to us. They outed the entire crowd with Closet Disco Dancer and Everybody Disco. They took us surfing with Love Pipe. They had us bellydancing, twisting, and crawling for an hour and a half before they left us, tired and sweaty, wishing that the Cold War had ended 25 years earlier!
Plain and simple...If Red Elvises are playing anywhere near you, and you DONT get in your car, bike, plane, boat, or whatever and go see them, then there's nothing we can do for you. I promise you this, if you dont forever view your life as Before Red Elvises and After Red Elvises, then you need to go back to sleep.
